I Want to be a Student too (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, Asenovgrad Municipality)

The aim of the project is improving the knowledge in Bulgarian language among children from Turkish and Roma ethnic groups in Asenovgrad Municipality. The project is implemented on the territory of Asenovgrad Municipality, in NIKOLA VAPTSAROV School. The target groups are every year 20 children in pre-school age, and their parents. During three month in the summer, in NIKOLA VAPTSAROV Scholl, Bulgarian language is taught in an attractive manner - through games, plays, songs and poems. Visits to historical and cultural places in the region were organized for the kids. Their parents were very supportive because their children have very useful time spent outside home, they acquaint new knowledge and receive an everyday breakfast. Trainers in the summer scholl were teachers from NIKOLA VAPTSARIOV School, and supporting techers from the local Roma Association COMMUNITY 21, which were the main partners in the project implementation. The project is also supported by the United Nations Development Programme, MATRA Programme of the Dutch Embassy, Diplomatic Club in Bulgaria, and private donations. Every year funds between 2,500 and 5,000 EUR were provided, showing that big effects could be achieved with small amounts.
